I AM CANADIAN! |
This past Sunday was the Country Fair in Olten, and let's just say, we represented the motherland like no other. Even though there were only a few of us there, we made sure everyone left knowing what country has the most pride.

Just 3 proud Canadians: Morgan (PEI), Danielle (Saskatchewan) and I |
The Country Fair happens every year and it is an event where all of the future Swiss outbounds and a few representatives from each country get together for an afternoon. All of the current inbounds set up tables with information about their countries and we basically try to sell our country to the outbounds. We answer their questions and give them pins and tattoos and maple sugar candies, and just have a grand old time. Although the true agenda is to compete with the other countries and show off our pride.
Morgan and I actually attempted to take over the world, one country at a time - and I have to say, we were pretty successful.
The day was a blast and it was fun to practice our German - although I am glad there were also former exchange students there that were able to help us when our German skills fell to pieces. One of the Rotex that was there was actually an exchange student in Burlington 2 years ago and it was cool to talk to her about home.
One of the downfalls of putting a bunch of Canadians in a room together is that Tim Hortons always comes up in conversation and we all manage to make each other feel homesick - if even for a second - just thinking about it.
Not only is the Country Fair fun for us (the inbounds), I think it is also really cool and informative for the future outbounds. Céline went into the day with her heart dead-set on the US and California. She left with her top three countries marked on her paper as Brazil, Mexico and New Zealand and has an interest in Taiwan as well. Talk about a 180...
