With only nine short days to go before I board a plane and embark on the biggest adventure of my life, I decided that maybe, just maybe, I should actually start to think about what I'm bringing with me and what I'm leaving behind.
I am definitely one that is known to overpack, but packing for a year, really? I folded my laundry and started to sort my clothes into piles and then by type. Pants here, shorts there, long sleeves over there, etc. Laying them all out on my pool table, I quickly realized that I had met my match. With so many baggage restrictions, packing for an entire year (four seasons in a country where the Alps are synonymous with the country's name itself) is harder than my grade 12 biology and chemistry finals combined.
I updated my facebook status stating the difficulties I was having and I think I found the solution to my problems. My good friend Laura Barey gave me the best piece of advice I think I'll ever receive. She blantly said "just go naked for the entire trip". So thank you Laura, my suitcases remain empty and my clothes are still strewn across the pool table in basement. Your advice has definitely influenced me and I love you.
Needless to say, I have given up on packing for the time being. We'll see how far I manage to get tomorrow, keep your fingers crossed for me?
xoxo,
madi
